Has your heart ever started beating fast in stressful situations? Or, maybe your hands get really sweaty and your thoughts blank? Chances are, you are experiencing anxiety— your body’s natural response to stress.

Anxiety can emerge from a variety of different situations, and it can seem alarming at first. But, knowing what your triggers are can help you combat this very natural response. While anxiety is normal, it should not be inhibiting you from living a productive life.

Take some time for self reflection to better understand what your anxiety triggers are. Once you get a sense of them, you can enact best practices to reduce your body’s physical and emotional response to stress.

5-7 technique

the most simple and common practice for alleviating anxiety is the use of breath control. The 5-7 technique is a great way to control your breathing, and decrease your heart rate. To practice this, slowly inhale for 5 seconds, and exhale for 7 seconds. This practice is also helpful in centering your focus to the present, which enables mindfulness.

 Tips to clear your anxiety

If you find yourself being anxious, and you have a bit of time on your hands, you can also go on a walk to clear your thoughts. Also, writing your thoughts down is a great way to get them out of your head and into your visual reality.

These were just a few common and research backed practices. However, anxiety is different for each person, which means the treatment practices are infinite.

If you feel that the suggested practices are not effective, continue to research and enact practices until you find what is best for you.
